Resources

In your Pursuit of Truth, here are resources that I recommend to speed you on your Spiritual Journey:

Websites:

  • EveryStudent.com
While obviously designed for students, excellent articles for anyone on a wide variety of topics. I personally think they should have named the site for more general appeal, as it describes itself as “A Safe Place to Explore Questions About Life and God” It is fantastic!
  • Questions.org
Designed like a search engine, Questions.org offers a large database of answers to common questions about God and the Christian life. It describes itself as, “Answers to Tough Questions about God and Life.” I like that it is willing to tackle topics many Christian leaders tend to avoid.

Books:

  • More Than a Carpenter by Josh McDowell – My first recommendation for anyone who wants to explore who Jesus is, and was not. Saying, “Jesus was a good man and moral teacher,” is intellectually lazy and borders on dishonest if you take a good look at what He actually taught. Josh, a former harsh critic of Jesus, the Bible and Christians set out to disprove Christianity. This book was the result.
  • Evidence That Demands a Verdict: Life-Changing Truth for a Skeptical World by Josh and Sean McDowell – An updated newer release from his previous Evidence That Demands a Verdict, and More Evidence That Demands a Verdict, both of which were incredible good.
  • The Case for Faith by Lee Strobel – Another skeptic turned believer once he looked at the actual evidence for Christianity. He followed it up with The Case for Christ, a Creator, Easter and more. (Just search for Lee Strobel Case for books)
  • How (Not) to Read the Bible: Making Sense of the Anti-women, Anti-science, Pro-violence, Pro-slavery and Other Crazy-Sounding Parts of Scripture by Dan Kimball – This book is incredible insightful! It has answers for the short, witty, anti-Christian MEMEs you see online that can’t be answered always in a few sentences, but there ARE answers for. As described on Amazon: Is Reading the Bible the Fastest Way to Lose Your Faith? For centuries, the Bible was called “the Good Book,” a moral and religious text that guides us into a relationship with God and shows us the right way to live. Today, however, some people argue the Bible is outdated and harmful, with many Christians unaware of some of the odd and disturbing things the Bible says.
How (Not) to Read the Bible tackles big questions like:
    • Does the Bible degrade women?
    • Is the Bible anti-science?
    • How could a loving God command such violence in the Old Testament?
    • Does the Bible endorse slavery?

Bestselling author Dan Kimball guides you step-by-step in how to tackle many of the real questions that people wrestle with when reading the Bible and how to make sense of many of the more difficult and disturbing Bible passages. Filled with fun stories, visual illustrations, and memes reflecting popular cultural objections, How (Not) to Read the Bible is a lifeline for anyone—Christians and doubters alike—who are confused or discouraged with questions about the Bible. Yes, there are puzzling and disturbing Bible passages. . . But there are explanations!
