In the heart of California’s Death Valley National Park, on a dry lake bed known as Racetrack Playa, a strange and silent phenomenon occurs—massive rocks slowly creep across the desert floor, seemingly all by themselves. These “Sailing Stones” leave behind long, winding trails—some stretching as far as 1,500 feet—etched into the cracked, sun-baked earth.
No one has seen them move with their own eyes. For decades, scientists puzzled over how it happens. Some suggested powerful winds. Others suspected ice sheets forming beneath the rocks. Eventually, time-lapse cameras confirmed that under rare winter conditions—when ice forms and the sun begins to melt it—these heavy stones are gently nudged along by a combination of water, ice, and wind. Slowly. Imperceptibly. But undeniably.
And yet… even with science providing some insight, there’s still something deeply mysterious about it. Giant rocks quietly gliding across a desert valley? It feels like the earth itself is whispering secrets.
But even more mysterious than moving rocks are the questions that echo in the quiet corners of our own souls:
Who am I?
How did I get here?
What is my purpose?
Is there any real meaning to this life?
We live in a world overflowing with information, yet many of life’s deepest questions remain unanswered for most people. And that’s not because the answers don’t exist—it’s often because we stop asking.
But asking questions is the beginning of wisdom. And real answers come only to those who dare to seek them. If you’re asking questions about life, meaning, or God—you’re not weak, you’re wise. You’re not lost, you’re searching. And searchers find what they’re looking for when they’re willing to look beyond themselves.
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)
What if the God who made the universe also made you? What if He knows you, loves you, and designed your life with purpose? What if—just like those mysterious stones—there’s been movement in your life all along… slow, quiet, often unnoticed… but in the direction of something greater?
God says in His Word:
“He is not far from any one of us.” (Acts 17:27)
So don’t be afraid to ask. Don’t settle for surface-level answers or dismiss the quiet tug in your heart. If God is real—and He is—then discovering Him will be the greatest adventure of your life.
Like the Sailing Stones of Death Valley, you may not always feel like you’re moving. But if you are seeking God, step by step, moment by moment, you’ll eventually look back and realize: He was guiding you the whole time.
What is your next step?
Get a Bible, and start to read it. Objectively with an open mind. You may just be surprised how incredible it is despite what you have been led to believe.
