Is Your Soul Worth $6?

If I could only recommend ONE book to those seeking the Truth about Jesus, it would be More Than a Carpenter, by Josh McDowell.

I’m not including a link – partly because links change, and partly because I don’t want anyone to think I’m pushing affiliate links to make money. I think you know how to find a book and buy it.

There is a lot of goofy stuff out there about Jesus. It ranges from ridiculous to silly to flat out heretical. (A fancy word for lying garbage.)

There are two extremes. The super sweet Jesus who wouldn’t hurt a fly, let alone send anyone to Hell, and the mean kill-joy prudish Jesus who is out to spoil all your fun with all His restrictive rules and unrealistic expectation.

Few seem to present Him as he truly was, a friend of sinners who the religious people hated.

And I rarely hear people quote what He had to say about the religious leaders, calling them a “broad of vipers” and “white washed tombs,” suggesting they presented themselves as being clean on the outside, but were dead inside. He was the one who went to the Temple and over-turned the tables on the merchants who were charging exorbitant fees on the people for the animals they needed for sacrifices. People often looked surprised when I remind them that it was the Jewish religious leaders who killed Jesus, not the Roman government. But when I mention Pilot washing his hands of the whole matter, they remember seeing that in a movie. Jesus was killed by the religious leaders. Which is why I am not religious.

If you don’t like Christianity, or maybe, don’t even like Christians – you’d probably like Josh McDowell.

Josh thought Christianity was a sham. In fact, perhaps like you, he thought Christians were out of their minds. He ridiculed and insulted them. Finally, he decided to combat them with his own thorough research to disprove the claims of Jesus Christ. To his surprise, he discovered that the evidence suggested exactly the opposite―that Jesus, instead of being simply a first-century Hebrew carpenter, truly was the God he claimed to be.

Josh went on to write the inspirational work on Christian apologetics, More Than a Carpenter, which has sold over 15 million copies. It has now been revised and updated and with son, Sean, as they tackle the questions that today’s generation continues to ask:*

  • Can I be spiritual without believing in God?
  • How can I make sure that my life counts for something?
  • Is it really possible to know anything for sure about God or Jesus?

I recommend this book because if you are intellectually honest, you CAN NOT GET AWAY with saying, “Jesus was a good man and a good teacher,” but not who He claimed to be. When you dive in to the actual actions and claims of Jesus, it’s intellectually lazy, and even dishonest to say anything positive about Jesus IF HE IS NOT WHO HE CLAIMED TO BE.

Jesus is either who He claimed to be, or He is something far worse.

If He is who He claimed to be, your soul is at stake. If He isn’t, we need to stop acting like He is an honorable historical figure. That’s why I recommend you spend $6 on this book and decide for yourself.

It might just be the best $6 you ever spend.
